Mary Heiny Sensei

Advance registration is requested

For more than 40 years, Mary Heiny Sensei has followed a path of physical and spiritual inspiration as a student and teacher of Aikido. She started this journey in 1965 after watching O’Sensei teach a class at Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. The effect of this first encounter has inspired her through long hours of training and study

After studying at Hombu Dojo from 1968 to 1973 with O’Sensei’s direct students and with Hikitsuchi Sensei, 10th dan, in Shingu, Heiny Sensei returned to the United States and began teaching at the University of California in Santa Cruz. In 1976, she went to Seattle and opened Seattle School of Aikido. After nine years, she turned that dojo over to her students and left to begin another journey

Heiny Sensei was invited to the Ottawa Aikikai in Canada in 1987 where she worked for three years developing the club into a full time dojo. When the school had grown to her satisfaction, she handed it over and embarked on another period of personal training and increased activity in teaching seminars and workshops in Canada, the US,and Europe. In 2001, Heiny Sensei returned to Seattle.
Heiny brings to every class, workshop, and seminar she teaches not only her years of aikido training and teaching, but also her extensive experience and study of Japanese culture, language, Shinto and Buddhist philosophies, and Non-Violent communication. She strives always to communicate the beauty and challenge of O’Sensei’s desire that we use Aikido to become empowered as creative, compassionate beings and learn to appreciate each other as members of one human family.

EAST COAST AIKIDO BRIDGE - ORLANDO

This is the first in what we anticipate to be annual gatherings to support the Aikido Bridge philosophy on the east coast of the United States. The Aikido Bridge is becoming a worldwide movement to bridge not only the inherent restrictions of organizational isolationism and style, but to bridge current learning perspectives with the singular heart of O’Sensei’s Aikido and the “oneness” of Aiki spirit. O’Sensei

said that Aikido “is a way to reconcile the world and make human beings one family." It is in this spirit that we come together to strengthen Budo, Aiki and Aikido. by training with the intent of creating a fabric of understanding woven from the many colors, textures and experience of all who share O’Sensei’s mission.

This first East coast bridge brings together a remarkable group of instructors:

Clyde Takeguchi Sensei (7th Dan)  - Francis Takahashi Sensei (7th Dan) - Greg O’Connor Sensei (6th Dan) - John Messores Sensei (6th Dan) - Dennis Hooker Sensei (6th Dan) - Todd Jones Sensei (5th Dan). All will contribute in their own way to the repast we all have the opportunity to share.

The seminar will be held at Shindai Dojo February 19-21, 2010. Learning sessions will take place:

Friday: 10:00 AM - Noon & 3:00 - 5:00, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Sat: 10:00 - Noon & 2:30 - 4:30 PM > Sun: 10:00 – Noon

At this time the seminar is restricted to 80 participants.  Pre-registration is mandatory.  Flyers and forms are linked.

We regret any inconvenience to those who had already made plans to attend the seminar in April.  Sensei’s doctors have suggested that he not put too much stress on his recuperation from shoulder surgery by having more than on seminar per month.  To that end we will move the seminar on his request to June. We sincerely hope to see all of you then.
